Keystone Exams

Pennsylvania Keystone Exams will be administered to Towanda Junior/Senior High School students during the month of MayThe Keystone Exams are end-of course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content areas.  Beginning with the class of 2017, students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra 1, Literature, and Biology Keystone Exams to graduate.  Students will be offered multiple opportunities to take the Keystones throughout their high school careers. Students who scored Basic or Below Basic on any subject tested during the December Keystones will be included in this test administration.

Financial Aid/FAFSA Completion Workshop

The Towanda High School Guidance Office will sponsor a Financial Aid/FAFSA Completion Workshop on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Towanda Junior/Senior High School Library. A representative from the Mansfield University Financial Aid Office will offer a Financial Aid 101 Information Session from 6:00 – 7:00 pm and a FAFSA Completion Session from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. Parents and students are invited to attend one of both of the sessions. The information will be for general purposes for any college.

The program is free of charge and is open to any parent or student. Parents attending the FAFSA Completion Session should consider bringing their 2012 tax information to assist in the completion process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Guidance Office at 268-2059.

Scholarship Information (Updated 1/21/2013)

Scholarship Information

Information concerning the School Nutrition Association of PA Scholarship has been received. It is available to a high school senior intending to pursue a career in food service, nutrition, or related field. Applications are available in the guidance office and must be submitted by February 28.

Information concerning the Big 33 Scholarships is now available online at www.big33.org The deadline to apply is February 11.

Information has been received from the Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority concerning the David T. Terrill Environmental Stewardship Scholarship. It is available to Bradford, Sullivan or Tioga County PA seniors planning to further his or her education in a field related to the environment. Applications are available in the guidance office. The application deadline is April 5, 2013.

Information concerning the PA Association of Community Bankers (PACB) is now available. Applicants must be high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college, university, or community college on a full-time basis. Applications are available in the guidance office. The application deadline is February 8, 2013.

Information concerning the Guthrie Scholarships is now available. Health Professions Scholarship – Available to high school seniors entering an accredited college, university, hospital-based nursing or allied health program with careers in health professions, including hospital administration or a planned career in medical research. Guthrie Employee Scholarship – Available to high school seniors planning to enroll in post-secondary education. Any career interest is  allowed. Applications are available in the Guidance Office, Guthrie Sayre Campus, or www.guthrie.org/press-releases The application deadline is Friday, January 25.

Information has been received from Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes in reference to various scholarships they have available. Eligibility requirements and a list of scholarship descriptions are available at www.communityfund.org under the scholarship tab or in the guidance office. Applications must be postmarked by February 19, 2013.

Information concerning the PSECU Scholarship Program can be found online at www.psecu.com/scholarships All applications must be submitted by noon February 28, 2013.

Information concerning the Hugh Carcella Memorial Scholarship can be found online at www.unionplus.org/college-education-financing/scholarships  The application deadline is March 15, 2013.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central PA has a scholarship program for students who have epilepsy or seizure disorders. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The application deadline is March 29,   2013.

The American Legion Need a Lift scholarship and financial aid information   booklet is now available online. Visit www.legion.org/needalift for more information. There are various scholarship deadlines.

The 2013 Masonic Scholarship Resource Guide has been received. The guide lists scholarship, grant and loan opportunities primarily for Masons, their siblings, children, grandchildren and members of the Masonic-related youth groups. The booklet is available in the guidance office of online at   www.pmyf.org There are various scholarship deadlines.

 

High School PSSAs

The Spring 2013 Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA) will be administered to Towanda Junior/Senior High School students during the months of March and April, 2013. The Reading and Math Assessment will be administered to 7th and 8th grade students April 9 – 11, 2013. Students will be participating in a PSSA Reading and Math Review Program prior to the test period.
